I first started following Gretna from a distance with a close interest back in 2004 or so. Gretna had been a place where we had always stopped at on the way through to a Holiday village halfway between Dumfries and Dalbeattie. When they started trouncing other teams every week, that really made me sit up and take notice! A team from a small village on the borders beating all these well established SFL clubs was big news to me.

The first game I went to was Gretna v Queen of the South on 11th November 2006 after I’d promised my wife I would take her to a game as she, who had been previously not been interested at all in football, started talking about Gretna to a Sunderland supporting mate of mine who had come round for a few beers.

From that first game, I was hooked. I loved the friendly atmosphere and camaraderie and started going to all the home games and within a couple of months, the away games too.

My favourite moment? (old & new Gretna) not hard at all!

Old Gretna – Dingwall 28/04/2007 when we beat Ross County 3-2 in the last minute to gain promotion to the SPL..

New Gretna – that first pre-season game in 2008 when we lost 5-0 to Workington. That was the start of the return of Gretna.

My favourite Player - Ross Johnston – a stalwart in the right back position.

I travel 105 miles to watch a game at Raydale Park.

Would I like to be more involved with the club -

unfortunately I can’t really dedicate any time at the moment as I am in a new relationship and my new partner and I are expecting a baby so I am focussed elsewhere. I have tried to get to watch a few games this season but unfortunately have been unable to on a number of occasions.

FACE IN THE CROWD ....continued

Colin Hood and Family

We started following Gretna when they got back into the Scottish football. Wanted to follow a team that was entertaining to watch and Gretna fit that nicely. We never managed to get to any games untill they got into the first division. The first game was a friendly against Hartlepool, a close game and that was that we were hooked. Then it was off to Fir Park to see them against Derry City. Good start to the game but the rest is history, lost 5 - 1, I will always remember the Derry fans non-stop singing from start to finish.

Favourite moment most would say the win at Ross County, last kick of the game and all that. Due to work we could not get to the game but I remember watching the results coming in on sky sports. I had a wee dance around our front room when we won. My best point would be sat in Ibrox in a full house watching Gretna play rangers for the first time even though we lost 50,000 fans watching little Gretna, what a great day out.

Favourite player for old Gretna would have to be Gavin Skelton, always a true pro. New Gretna, cant really single any one out as the whole squad are what makes them good to watch.

We live in Kirkcudbright, about 50 miles from Gretna so it’s quite a trek to games but it’s always worth it.

I would like to be more involved but my job makes it impossible to commit. I’m a dairyman and only get 2 days off every 3 weeks so always look forward to getting in the car and getting to games as often as we can. For most seasons that is about 14 games. Before moving back to Scotland I was a regular at White Hart Lane watching my other team, Tottenham Hotspur.
