Carlisle United legend Hughie McIlmoyle is to make a playing comeback – at the age of 70!
Hughie McIlmoyleThe striker who became such a hit with Blues fans in three spells with the club has agreed to take part in a charity match next month aimed at raising much-needed funds for Gretna FC.
The centrepiece of a weekend of activities at Gretna’s Raydale Park is a match between their Old Boys and Carlisle United Old Boys.
And McIlmoyle has pledged to pull on the blue jersey for old times’ sake.
“My knees gave way about 10 years ago,” he said .
“But I should be all right taking the odd throw in and maybe even a penalty if the goalkeeper decides to turn his back!”
The match will take place on Sunday, March 7, following a sporting dinner featuring former Liverpool and Denmark player Jan Molby at Gretna Social Club on the Saturday night.
